Right!?! I was hoping for a street/track build with a turbo KA or SR swap. The LS3 is awesome, but LS swaps are just kind of boring.

Though I suppose the LS's are lighter and cheap and easy. Oh well. beggars can't be choosers.

The LS builds are just too cheap and easy, plus the wonderful state of California doesn't allow SR-20DET or any of the RB series motors on the road if they were swapped. The LS will make more power and weigh less than a turbo KA would, but I'd rather see some imagination. I'm kind of over seeing LS motors in everything, I'd be happier seeing a coyote getting shoved in there, but I think they are too wide for them to fit in small cars.

The LS has the market cornered on engine power/weight margins, plus they are relatively small for a V8.

California doesn't allow SR20-DET motors to be legally swapped in. We only got the SR20-DE motor in the sentra so the DET is a non-CARB refereeable motor. Which is bullshit, I don't understand if the car passes a strict sniffer test and runs clean it should be good to go right?

It is kind of stupid. Although I wonder how different the non turbo version is. Can't be too different, it is was in their base sports car. Either way, get an Sr20 DE, turbo and tah-dah!!

Exactly. I'm not a Nissanophile so I don't know the discrete differences between the DE and DET motors, but I think the DE motors were high compression as they were in the SE-R cars. But that is a wild assumption on my part, and really that plan only works with an S13 that is older than the SR20-DE you are trying to put in. Silly smog laws are bullshit I tell you.

I think the SR20DET had a 8 or 9:1 compression ratio and the SR20DE had a 9.5 or something like that. They are still pretty much identical. . . I think, I don't know.

At least in California the whole state is stupid, in Indiana only two counties have emissions and stuff. . . I live in one of the counties. Luckily I have my first test in 2017!

Better hurry up and get your turbo on there so you can have 3 years of fun before you have to smog, or is it just a plug into the OBD-II port and as long as you have no codes you are good to go type thing?

yeah that was my suspicion. Pity Californians are strict on the engine themselves.

I've got a buddy with an RB25det swapped 180sx. Goes like stink.

Cost him less than a grand in parts down here. Whereas an LS crate motor alone would be $4k upwards or something.

They are throwing money at that like crazy! I like the Roadkill show a little bit better. It is just interesting to see them take a crap car and go on a huge roadtrip.

I don't understand why the drift community or car enthusiasts in general lose their shit when it comes to spending any semblance of money on a build, especially one as purpose built as this. Not everything's a missile or LeMons car. I haven't watched the first two episodes so I guess I'm missing something?

Motor Trend you tube videos use the same footage and repeat the same statements over and over and over. Most of their videos could be edited down to half the length and still convey the same information.

They're like the Jud Apatow of youtube car enthusiast channels.
